Global Symposium on Soil Organic Carbon

UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF MITIGATING AND ADAPTING TO A CHANGING CLIMATE   Rome, 21-23 March 2017

The Global Symposium on Soil Organic Carbon will take place at FAO headquarters in Rome on 21-23 March, 2017. The symposium aims to review the role of soils and soil organic carbon in the context of climate change and sustainable development.

With this bold action, the organizers are pursuing the benefit of unlocking the potential of mitigating and adapting to a changing climate.

The symposium will explore promising research related to soil management practices, policies, and action plans for maximizing the potential of soil carbon management for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The event is jointly organized by the FAO/Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Panel on Soils, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and its Science-Policy Interface, and the World Meteorological Organization.

Abstract Submission - Deadline approaching, only 7 days left !

The deadline for abstract submission is approaching fast.  As a reminder, the Organizing Committee of the Global Symposium on Soil Organic Carbon (GSOC17) is currently accepting abstracts that will compete for oral presentations during this symposium. The extended abstracts shall be written in English, maximum 2000 words in Word format.

Abstracts should address the following symposium themes:

  3. Managing SOC in soils with a) high SOC - peatlands, permafrost, and black soils b) grasslands, and livestock production systems and c) in dryland soils.

 Guide for authors:

  • All extended abstracts must be submitted in the prescribed format (Extended abstract template) and emailed to GSOC17(at)fao.org, indicating ``Call for extended abstracts/Your name`` in the subject line.
